My WT library has absolutely no reference to "toilet paper" or wiping the posterior. This was a brilliantly written -- to mimic their style -- piece.

QFR- Is the use of Toilet Paper appropriate for True Christians today?
by Theocratic Sedition in4/1/1967 wt.
for years, modern civilization has used the commercially available product known as toilet paper to cleanse one's rear posterior.
it is a common practice that has permeated almost all** of the inhabited earth.

A Salute to Petra/Atlantis
by Slidin Fast inwhilst i have never quite understood whether petra and atlantis are one or multiple entities i recognise the value of their work and web of contacts.
i think it is fair to say that no-one has consistently contributed more solid gold intelligence to this site.
no one has reliably passed on more bomb shells and solid news as well as day to day minutiae.

Amen to Smiddy3.
Some years ago I was a firsthand recipient to Atlantis' generosity.
I can't remember the exact item, but he sent me a CD/ DVD of some relevant Watchtower data -- this via U.S. postage -- all at his expense. Wouldn't take a dime reimbursement for mailing, CD cost, and the cost of his time.
While I can't remember the specifics, I will never forget a generous act of a person behind the Atlantis handle.

But you told us about those dates.
by Lost in the fog inyou couldn't make it up!
saw this wt quote on a friend's page.
it is from the awake magazine of 1993, march 22nd apparently.

A profound topic, "Lost in the fog".
One can sum it up in another way:
Never did they say, "These are the words of Jehovah." Awake!, March 22, 1993
Oh, yes, they did, if you consider that "say" and "promise" are synonymous -- and any reasonable person would.
AS INDICATED on page 4, “this magazine builds confidence in the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away.” Awake!, November 8, 1994
*******
One irony of these two quotes is that they were uttered by The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society -- if you consider that the source of "Awake!" is synonymous with Watchtower -- and any reasonable person would.
The second irony of these quotes is that they were published in their pages within only 597 days of each other.

Very interesting post my fellow old-timer.
Not being that addicted to social media but then I`m mostly on this site for a couple of hours a day .
That reminds me that I, too, had been grabbed some 15 years ago by this site (and my handle Fatfreek 2005 reflects that), I and a multitude of others -- Blondie, Minimus, Leolia, Terry, etc. Just look at the quantity of their postings here. Multiply each posting by X minutes, depending on the complexity of the topic, and you have a peek at the social media dilemma in its very minuscule embodiment.
It didn't take me long to realize that I, also, was being addicted by a force that wasn't necessarily evil, no single entity, no spirit being was behind it -- but the result was that my time was being consumed -- no, IS BEING CONSUMED at this very moment by creating this very posting.
This forum is merely a mild form of the addiction that I was witnessing as Facebook was launching. Ergo, I have never joined Facebook and the other major players
Example: My dear wife, now mostly an invalid, was being visited regularly by her loving nieces, and as they sat there in our living room trying to comfort her could not take their eyes off their phones in their lap for more than 30 seconds. Absolutely no evil intent on their part but my wife commented on their behavior when they left, and she was right, and it kinda broke my heart that she could feel the unintentional estrangement that was happening.
I also see it when my 58-year-old son comes over for movie night and his phone lights up non-stop during this movie and his attention is subtracted by this inanimate object in his lap.
However, I don't view any of the social media avenues as inherently wicked, as I don't view fatty foods and sugar as grossly bad for us. I view them all as two-edged swords that must be handled with care.

No longer members? Here's a list of WT quotations (what they said) regarding membership.
*** w58 2/1 p. 83 par. 9 Jehovah Brings the Increase ***
9 There are persons who apparently hope for our conformity to the world and who try to see in our increase and prosperity signs of such conformity. Occasionally such ideas frequently spoken find published expression. Of interest is the following example, which, while reviewing modern events after a fashion, expresses a wish or hope for conformity on our part, as follows: “Jehovah’s Witnesses is the fastest-growing religious movement in the world. In fifteen years it has tripled its membership. . . . One of my earliest impressions of the group came in the days of World War II when, on a city street, I saw a cleric jostle a Watchtower Witness and exclaim, ‘Damn you, conscientious objector!’
*** w13 8/15 p. 8 Questions From Readers ***
Whether a disfellowshipped person sits next to a relative or next to any other member of the congregation should not be a cause for concern as long as he behaves properly.
*** w12 4/15 p. 12 par. 16 Betrayal—An Ominous Sign of the Times! ***
There are members of the congregation who committed serious sins and who were reproved “with severity, that they may be healthy in the faith.” (Titus 1:13) For some, their conduct has required that they be disfellowshipped. For “those who have been trained by it,” the discipline has helped them to become spiritually restored.
*** w11 2/15 p. 32 par. 19 Do You Hate Lawlessness? ***
One individual who was disfellowshipped and was later reinstated wrote: “I am happy that Jehovah loves his people enough to see that his organization is kept clean. What may seem harsh to outsiders is both necessary and really a loving thing to do.” Do you think that this person would have been helped to come to such a conclusion had members of the congregation, including her family, maintained regular contact with her while she was disfellowshipped? Our supporting the Scriptural arrangement of disfellowshipping gives evidence that we love righteousness and recognize Jehovah’s right to set standards of conduct.
*** w01 10/1 p. 17 par. 16 How Can You Help a “Prodigal” Child? ***
If a baptized youth is disfellowshipped, the congregation members are expected “to quit mixing in company with” him. (1 Corinthians 5:11; 2 John 10, 11) This may eventually help him to ‘come to his senses’ and return to God’s protective fold. (Luke 15:17) Whether he comes back or not, however, members of the congregation can encourage the family of the disfellowshipped youth. We can all look for opportunities to show “fellow feeling” and to be “tenderly compassionate” toward them.
*** km 11/99 p. 4 par. 12 Use of the Internet—Be Alert to the Dangers! ***
The Christian congregation is the theocratic means through which we are fed spiritually by “the faithful and discreet slave.” (Matt. 24:45-47) Within God’s organization, we find direction and protection to keep us separate from the world as well as motivation to keep busy in the work of the Lord. (1 Cor. 15:58) The psalmist indicated that he experienced joy and a feeling of security among God’s congregated people. (Ps. 27:4, 5; 55:14; 122:1) The congregation also provides spiritual support and assistance for those associated with it. Therein, you can find a group of loving, concerned, and caring friends—people you personally know who are ready and willing to help and comfort others in times of distress. (2 Cor. 7:5-7) Congregation members are protected by the Scriptural provision for disfellowshipping those who sin unrepentantly or who promote apostate thinking.

1914 Dropped
by pale.emperor inso i was observing an online conversation between a jw and a former-jw.
the non-jw pointed out that wwi cant have had anything to do with satan supposedly being "cast out of heaven" because wwi was already well under way in oct 1914.. the jw proceeds to explain that satan was actually thrown down to the earth in 1915 and that he started to wreak havock on the earth from heaven knowing he was about to be cast out.. so 1914 is officially old light now?
does anyone have a source for that or was this brother lying through his teeth?.

"True to Bible prophecy, this world’s “conclusion” began in 1914 and was marked by the outbreak of the first world war." THe Watchtower, Jan 1, 2000, p. 8, par. 10
Thanks for that, Petra. Here, Watchtower makes it sound like they predicted WWI to happen in 1914.
They never did. Isn't it strange that of the 24 happenings they predicted for 1914, World War I (The Great War) was not one of them. Thanks to internet search technology, Watchtower can no longer hide from what they said (or didn't say).
In electronically scouring of all WT Publications prior to 1914, which prophetically cite 1914 and what would happen on or before that "special" date, there is absolutely no mention of a war, much less "the Great War", beginning in 1914. There were, however, 24 other prophecies WT pages made concerning 1914 and, of course, they all failed to materialize.
You may check out those citations for yourself at the following link."The 24 Prophetic Failures of Watchtower’s Most Heralded Date, 1914"https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mh0MaBvejUwEU9uh3YCI8lH8M1zCKP1K/view?usp=sharing -

Hmmmm .... The mike was turned off and he was physically interrupted by a man, probably elder, at 14:50.
I'm not clear exactly what he said that violated JW protocol. I hope someone can clear this up.
He doesn't sound like a radical at all. Quite pleasant, mild mannered, mostly eloquent.
